The Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO) presents its 45th Annual Young Artists Concerto Competition this March.  Eligible candidates are high school students in grades 9 – 12 who are either a resident of Westchester County, or who reside elsewhere, but whose primary location of music study is in Westchester.  
The 5 Prizewinners be invited to perform part or all of their concerto with the Yonkers Philharmonic at its annual Concerto Competition Winners Concert on Sunday, May 5.  Each Prizewinner will also receive a cash prize as follows:
 
   1st Prize:  $1,000
   2nd Prize:  $750
   3rd Prize:  $500
   4th Prize:  $400
   5thPrize:  $300
First round auditions will be on Sunday, March 24, and Final round auditions will be on Wednesday, March 27.  The competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists.  Electronic Registration will begin exclusively on YPO’s website (www.YonkersPhilharmonic.org) on Sunday, January 14, and will include full details regarding competition requirements.  The Registration fee is $75 (payable via the website Registration page) but is waived for City of Yonkers residents.
 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 
– PIANISTS: one fast(er) and a slow(er) movement of a traditional multi-movement concerto (e.g. first and second, or second and third, movements of a 3-movement concerto), or all of a single-movement work for piano & orchestra
 
– OTHER INSTRUMENTALISTS: all movements of a multi-movement work, or all of a single-movement work, for Solo instrument and orchestra.
 
– VOCALISTS: Operatic Arias and/or Art Songs for which published orchestral accompaniments are available.
 
NOTE: The Applicant is responsible – in the event of being selected as a Prizewinner – for any rental and/or performance rights costs and related fees in the event the orchestral parts and/or conductor’s score for the Composition chosen is not in the public domain (e.g. not available on IMSLP.org)
